For leading a healthy and disease-free life, knowledge of nutrition is of immense importance
for one and all. Diet Therapy has a primary role in the treatment of many disorders. Suitable
dietary modification is extremely important not only in management but also in prevention
and control of gastrointestinal problems, febrile conditions, liver disorders, obesity, diabetes
mellitus, cardiovascular disease and the disorders of the kidney.
The ideology of the department of nutrition and dietetics at Rathi Hospital is to encourage
better nutritional practice and standards as a fundamental part of health care, as nutrition is
both preventive as well therapeutic.
For In-patient care, after a basic Evaluation of each patient by the doctor, a Diet is prescribed
keeping in mind the physiological conditions and/or procedure planned. Each patient at Rathi
Hospital receives a minimum of 1 visit per day and 5-8 Services per day are provided based
on the kind of diet required

For Out-patient care, the O.P.D. patients are referred from various O.P.D. viz. Medicine,
Endocrinology, Nephrology, Clinical Cardiology, Psychiatry and Psychology, Surgery,
Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Urology, Orthopaedics. Patients are offered
comprehensive diet counselling strictly keeping in mind their ongoing therapies.

For Ante-natal and post natal care, counselling to expectant mothers on diet and nutrition
during pregnancy is provided and Post-delivery, mothers are guided about dietary precautions
to be taken during lactation.
